xox

If at first you don't succeed

It just goes to show, persistence pays off!!

By persistence, I mean constantly scrutinising the dress section of Victoria's Secret for this gem
I saw it... oh... hum... months ago. Loved it. But didn't buy it. Some wacko idea I had about saving money. Then it disappeared and I have been punishing myself/obsessing about it.

THEN, instead of doing my assignment for uni (Conveyancing - YAWN) this sunday morning, I decided to do one last teeny sneaky peek.

Cut to me doing my evil laugh whilst forking over my credit card details.

AT LAST IT IS MINE! MY PRECIOUS!

Ideally, I will look like nice lady in the photo, not Gollum from Lord of the Rings when I finally get into the dress.

and NOW I can get back to my homework.

Like a good little law student.

Who also bought two super soft Pima tees from Victoria's Secret with the maxi dress.

Nonstop drooling over interior decor = Assignment time again

Yes. I have diversified my modes of procrastination.

Today, we are focusing on decor along the theme of 'well, instead of getting anywhere near doing uni work, let's dream instead of what my home is going to look like'

As follows:

Bathroom (this has GOT to be one of the most important places, doesn't it?)

I'm really liking the darkwood options.. but the pale cabinets are so provincial frenchy, how could I not love? hmm decisions decisions.

Not much easier in the study either:

Or the kitchen (another majorly important room, too often with stingy sized sinks and NO counter space - how on earth would one manage?)

Procrastination thanks to Pottery Barn and Elle Decor. YUM!

I just can't fight it

It seems like I always stumble my way back to all things kitsch during exam periods... once more I have managed to procrastinate and wade my way through the world wide web and landed upon these new don't-need-but-must-have-its:

Contact Lens Case (never mind I have spent the last three months browsing vintage spectacle frames - more about that later, long story short, I thought I'd wear my specs more and up my nerdy quirky quotient)

Pillow Cases (these are less than my stipulated 600 egyptian thread count minimum but it must be the Moccona Instant Coffee talking - mum switched to decaf, did I mention that? Again, long story short, the only things I can get my hands off that are considered stimulating in this house are Dad's cigarettes, Moccona, or Chai)

I can't wait till this exam is over and I can go back to wanting normal things, that I cannot afford.

And not just because it's GFC2 and I am going through a phase of skinflint like never before...which reminds me I SO need to just man up and order another supply of contacts.

Crunch time!

....Exam is this thursday... therefore the Dommy theatre had to be completely restocked. Now playing:

  • Valentine's Day
  • Will & Grace
  • FRIENDS
  • The Hangover
  • 17 Again - the original soundtrack
  • Made of Honour
  • All About Steve - the original soundtrack
P.S. Just watched Grey Gardens featuring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange .... I am now majorly dehydrated from weeping. Serves me right from deviating from my usual diet of fluffy television viewing.

Saturday mornings with Colbie

Despite my best efforts to get some sunshine, the universe is determined to make me stay indoors to study with rain, cold weather, and cloudy skies.

HAH.

I spent all morning searching for new music (and new dresses), and came across this one:

Whilst I cannot always admit to being a cheesy corny romantic, this one is just put in your pockets adorable. The video is a complete cringe-fest but cute in that 'we tried to be laid back, but actually we killed ourselves trying to make this' way but I totally adore the boho/hippie vibe to it.

Anywho, now that I have a new addition to my playlist, I shall actually get down to some study.

The land of the free (and easy)

Today is a public holiday - what is it this time, you ask? Since you asked, it's Australia Day.

Don't you have another public holiday coming up soon? Yes, that would be the Queen's Birthday.

I love this town. Hah.

Although, technically I should be putting my time to good use by madly finishing (ok, starting) off the following:

1 x presentation for Ethics tomorrow
1 x reflective journal 1500 words minimum for Ethics thursday
1 x discussion paper 2000 words for Corporate Insolvency next monday
1 x study session (ok, cramming) for Ethics exam next wednesday
1 x research paper 4000 words for Corporate Insolvency 9th Feb

Yes, sure. No worries, as we say in Australand.

Hah! THS The Kardashians is on so.... maybe after that.

And the sun is out now, and I did mention that tan look I like? (obviously I use sunscreen, duh)

So... maybe after that.

Dommynikki views:

I have always had a soft spot for anything Vince Vaughn, and I was overjoyed when Jen A dated him. Like, my two fave actors together? Joy. And then they drifted apart. Blast.

But anyways, this has been playing on cable and I just love this one comedian. And so delighted to see that on the day I have cupcakes to make for Leanne and Celina, and two presentations to draft for Monday, that instead I am getting numerous chances to practice my evil laugh watching clips like this.

How to Waste Time and Make a Panic Attack

Waste not want not, they say.

i say, why write an essay? (sorry to keep banging drum about it folks. don't worry, home stretch, have only one day left before the deadline...)

So... why write an essay...when you can:

Update your Victoria's Secret Wish Lists! This is mine: HERE.

...and can i just add, they are so darn good at that "we think, if you liked that.. you're gonna love these other 5 items, that are similar, but slightly different, hence why you need them too."

they were right! i did like them! good job!!!

What to do when it rains...

There's nothing like an assignment deadline looming overhead to make one scroll through random galleries (thank you news.com.au) and get inspired to just make like Mariah (or Miranda) and fluff up that hairdo y'all...

It must be some unknown slimming secret. Will try, and report back. Over and out.

i love happy endings

the rest of my sunday was okay

i wish that everything was easier, but i guess things need to be said before a fuse blows

today i have spent all morning and afternoon staring at the same 1400 words...

banking law is painful to write about. i have no idea what i'm rabbiting on about.. and yet i still have another 1100 to go!

AND with no more coffee... only instant. yuck.

so instead, i spent 45 out of 60minutes in the hour staring at rims for my volvo..

did i mention that a tyre blew? well, it blew... so now i'm getting rims...

Study Sessions: We love sounds

My last exam of the semester is tomorrow afternoon. I make it sound like I have been inundated with exams when I've only had two - but FYI two law exams are enough to make me squirm with nerves. It is what it is in the eye of the beholder.

So as people have come to expect of me, I am on the bed with notes sprawled everywhere. For once, FRIENDS is not on in the background - and I have not checked eBay since last Thursday...

But that's because I just feel like chatting with Tianbabes but she isn't on MSN.

Too much uni work leads to avoidance tactics involving Facebook and Pringle-testing

Best flavour for Pringles ------ Smokey Bacon!!! Beats Texan BBQ handsdown. I always maintain that if one is going to eat processed junk then let it be the one with the most artificial flavouring - why bother with Original???

Facebook application overload --- in one day, I became a fan of Miu Miu, Fendi, Balenciaga and Will & Grace. I added Sticky photos to my home page. I congratulated every person with a new job and wished happy birthday to everyone else. I updated my Stylepix (whatever that is). I, who cannot actually stand Facebook and who prefers to blog instead.

Don't get me wrong though, I have still not done anything about the 251 emails in my Hotmail account, the 78 emails in my Yahoo account, the 12 voice messages on my mobile and the 241 (and rising) notification requests in my Facebook account.

All I am trying to say is that there is nothing like assignment time for suddenly catching up with old friends, rekindling random interests in or doing laundry.

MacQuarie University has a strict 'don't hand it in, don't bother coming back' policy for reports. I am lucky I went to UNSW for my first degree (weekends are freebies if you can afford the one day penalty for missing a Friday deadline, you get the next two days free!) and now UTS. I have found the deadlines vary between subjects. Is this my lecturer's preference? Dunno.

My report was due yesterday - I console myself with the thought that if I had become a writer, that I would be perfect at my job. Always missing deadlines and avoiding editors. I am employed in insurance at the moment and so far have not found it possible to miss deadlines. Dammit.

Interestingly though, for this particular subject, one is penalised at the rate of 1/2 mark per day late and 1 mark for every fifty words above 2000 words. So far I am one day late and on 879 words (500 of which are rubbish, which leaves 379 of questionable coherence).

FYI for those who care, this is Constitutional Law. Most people either loathe it or cannot stand it. The remainder are insane and can't get enough. I fit into the niche of those who can tolerate it but just can't stay awake for it. I refuse to sink to using NoDose.

Also, the question being asked in my assignment is the distinction between punitive and protection detention in light of decisions made in the High Court of Australia.

The answer is there is no clear distinction. Nobody could make up their mind.

That's 14 words right there. No chance of being penalised for exceeding the word limit then. Phew.

dear diary

last day before the exam...

the good : got some study done
the bad: did not get all study done

the good: found time to buy a new toothbrush (battery powered way-hey! yes i'm lazy to move my hand)
the bad: also found time to buy new dvf

the good: it was a DVF!! half price!!
the bad: i know only one person who knows what a DVF means

the good: it was DVF!
the bad: had to alter it...

the good: a TAILORED DVF!!!
the bad: worried the label will get snipped off

the good: auntie said she would be careful since she understands my self-admitted kiasu/snob problem
the bad: can't concentrate any longer until DVF comes back

Pick of the day

I don't know anything about horse racing..
this is what I would have chosen for the trifector:

International City Wear:
  1. 3.1 Philip Lim
  2. Carolina Herrera
  3. Celine

ironic thought #1

meanwhile, my dog has graduated from puppy preschool..
the certificate is mocking me on the fridge

but alas, it will be too late
i am too old and my knees don't bend the right way any longer

uni deadlines looming

oh gosh oh gosh oh gosh!!!
